Math Centers are Number One!

We sure love math centers!  Every Tuesday and Thursday morning in Kindergarten we have Math Center time.  We count, sort, build, string, create, and use our imaginations to the fullest!  We have many different manipulatives to choose from, so the possibilities are endless!

Today, Caleb and Jack made animals and space ships with our connecting disks!

Aiden and Hayden strung beads and made some cool headbands!

Connor used the peg boards to make a rainbow cake!

And, the girls made...a big mess, but it sure was fun!

Better Late, Than Never!

Ok, I've been remiss in writing to tell you about our Johnson's Pumpkin Farm field trip!  I apologize, and use my Halloween week "candy coma" as a weak excuse!  :)

We traveled to the pumpkin farm on a VERY chilly Friday morning.  No one complained, except the adults, so it must've been a great trip!  It was!  We visited with many of Farmer Johnson's animals, took a great walk through the soybean maze, and had a delicious snack of chocolate covered donuts and apple cider!  Check out our pictures below...

Waiting for the animals to appear.  Were we on the outside looking in, or vice versa!?

Here they come!  Look at Hayden's face!!  LOL

They were all very gentle and happy to see us (and the treats we got to feed some of them!)

Feed me!!

The girls loved the soft bunny!

Connor thinks he needs one too!

Of course, we had to visit Anna and Elsa!  And appropriately, many of us were FROZEN that day!!

Mrs. Duclos leading the pack through the soybean maze!

Still haven't found our way out!! HELP!!

All done.  Safe and sound with Spongebob and Friends!!

A Special Visitor - Fire Safety

Firefighter Mark came to visit us last week, and we sure had a great time with him!  October is Fire Safety Month, so we appreciate his visit to remind us of the importance of having a family plan in case of a fire, keeping low to avoid the heat and smoke, and most of all, his presentation about firefighters and their gear!  Firefighter Mark tried on all of the clothing and equipment he would wear if he should have to enter a burning building.  He did this to show our Kinder Friends that even though firefighters look big and intimidating with all of the clothes, masks and tanks, they are just people underneath all of their gear...people that are there to help us!  He even let us try on his BIG, HEAVY coat!  What a fun time, and great learning experience.  Thanks, Firefighter Mark!!

"See, it's just me," says Firefighter Mark.

Firefighter Caleb!
Firefighter Emilee!
Firefighter Connor!  Something must tickle!!  :)
Firefighter Alijah!
Firefighter Hayden!
Firefighter Jack!  Take me to your leader!!  :)
And finally, Firefighter Mrs. Wilson!  I think I definitely qualify...
I put out "fires" in Kindergarten every day, right!?  ;)

So Let's All Praise The Lord!

We have been talking about God's promise to Abraham during our Jesus Time, and we have been wrapping up these discussions/activities with the song "Father Abraham!"  What a great "get the wiggles out" song, as we march around the room, singing our praises to the Lord!

 Right Leg, Left Leg...

Right Arm, Left Arm...

Our new Apple Tvs give us the music and the words!!

Turn Around, Sit Down!

Yes, let's!!

Foamy, Fun Friday!

Everyone really enjoyed our sensory art project on Friday.  We sprayed shaving cream onto our desks and made fun, foamy pictures!!  We wrote our names, made fun shapes, and tried to see who could make the highest pile of foam on our desks!  When we were done, our whole room smelled SO GOOD, just like our Daddies when they shave in the morning!!!  :)

Our desks were super clean when we were finished!!

Jack says, "It feels good!"

Audrey wrote her name!

Connor's foamy fingers!!

Raise your hands if you're having fun!!

Aiden says, "Want a hug?"

Welcome, Autumn!

We celebrated the first week of Fall with a great trip to Leaman's Green Applebarn!  The weather was crisp, and so were the apples!!!  What a beautiful day to spend outside, learning about God's creation!

The ground dried up enough from the overnight rain, so we were able to take a hayride, too!  What a fun, bumpy trip around the apple orchards!!!

Everyone was very interested when we learned that apples are "nature's toothbrush!"  Our guide told us that we could eat an apple and it would clean our teeth as good as a brush and toothpaste would!?! I made sure to tell the Kinder Friends not to "get any ideas!", they were still expected to brush with a real toothbrush every day!!  :)

Field trips are the best!!!  Honk, honk!!

If You're Happy and You Know It...

One of the best things about being a Kindergarten teacher happens daily...kids say, write, and do the best things!!!  This week we have been working with story lines, characters, and themes in our Reading Street curriculum.  An assignment that everyone loved included the song, "If You're Happy and You Know It...clap your hands, stomp your feet, etc."  Our job, after singing along with the video, was to finish the sentence with something that makes US happy, and draw a picture to go with it.  I got a lot of the usual, "playing video games, jumping on the trampoline, painting pictures", but my favorite had to be, "If You're Happy and You Know It...have a tornado plan."  !!!???!???!??  Dr. Frederick said it was good timing on my Kinder Friend's part, because she just had to submit our  tornado drill plan to the county!!  That should make him happy - safety first!!!  Check it out!

Love, Love, Love it!!!

Here a a couple more...

Good Morning!

When Kindergarten friends enter the room each day, there is work waiting for them on their desks.  We call it our Morning Work.  Right now we are working on letter sounds and number recognition.

When Morning Work is done in Kindergarten, we have two options to choose from while the rest of our friends are still finishing...Writing Center or Library.  We LOVE to create in the Writing Center, and our families get all kinds of "letters" and pictures coming home daily!  Library time finds us "reading" together, looking at great pictures, and especially playing with the I Spy books, our favorites!!!!

An Apple a Day!

Friday was our first art day, and our masterpieces are ready for viewing!  Friday was the hottest day I can remember in my teaching career...AND of course, it was art day (which makes me sweat in the middle of winter!).  :)  Either way,  I hope you enjoy our work.  Our classroom looks so much brighter and happier!!!
